CANCUN, MEXICO

Just a sleepy fishing village not too many years ago, Cancun is now one of Mexico’s Premier resort areas.

With almost perfect weather, warm white sand beaches and crystal blue seas, Cancun offers an exotic tropical island setting with every modern convenience.

When the government decided to turn this sandy island into a new resort in the late 1960’s, building began in earnest and Cancun came in to being.

Located on the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana-Roo, Cancun is comprised of 3 distinct but integrated areas. The “Zona Hotelera (or Tourist Zone), Cancun City (or Centro) and the ecological reserve, with lovely lagoons and mangroves.

Cancun’s history is rich with Mayan influences. Mayan culture flourished for centuries on the Yucatan Peninsula prior to the Spaniards arrival in 1519. There are more than 1200 archeological sites scattered within a few hours drive from Cancun. Even Cancun’s ultra modern Tourist Zone harbors ruins dating to the 12th century.

In Cancun you will find world class hotels, restaurants and nightlife. There are many tours and activities, such as fishing, diving, snorkeling, parasailing and wave running available.

The “Zona Hotelera” or Tourist Zone, is a narrow island, in the shape of the number 7, about14 miles long. Hotels and beachfront condominiums line the beaches along this stretch of incredible Caribbean coastline. Kukulcan Blvd is the main thoroughfare that dissects the island. On the inland side of Cancun Island is Laguna Nichupte, a vast lagoon serving as home to many marinas, water front restaurants, shopping malls, golf courses and of course spectacular sunsets.

Cancun City, or Centro, with a population of about 500,000, is the lesser known Cancun. This is where the locals live and it is the heartbeat of the entire area. Although not heavily promoted, it is an area that should not be missed. “Centro” is a pleasant city with great restaurants and modern shopping facilities, and it is a peaceful diversion to all of the glitz that surrounds the Tourist Zone.

In the following sites, you will find information for fishing charters, tours, hotels and condominiums, restaurants, shopping., and more.
