Rocky Point is sunny almost year-round with practically no rainfall. The winters are mild and the summers are warm with cool breezes.
The more recent town of Puerto Penasco began as a humble fishing village. Growing in the 1920’s when fisherman discovered the vast bounty of shrimp beds, and American owned hotels began to appear. American’s including the infamous Al Capone came to Rocky Point to enjoy the climate, drink, gamble and deep sea fish. In 1952, Puerto Penasco was recognized by the national government as a city and a local government was formed. In the 1970’s development projects by the Mexican government began and there was a large increase in the size of the fishing fleet.
Today, Puerto Penasco boasts modern hotels, luxury rental homes, beachfront condominiums, first class restaurants, water activities, shopping and exciting investment opportunities.
There are many places to visit while in Rocky Point, such as the Pinacate Mountains, which geographic conditions were ideal for NASA’s training for the Lunar mission due to the similarity to the moon’s surface. The Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO), where you can discover more about the area with its endless tidal pools, estuaries, lava beds and diverse desert vegetation.
You can also visit the sand dunes of the Altar Desert.
Rocky Point offers many sporting events including sailing, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and windsurfing to name a few.
With miles of coast line with sandy beaches and rocky coves to roam or just relax on, Rocky Point is an excellent destination for your next vacation.
